Choosing a shoppable image module for PrestaShop: 10 things to check

Lookbook, hotspot and shop-the-look modules for PrestaShop look alike in screenshots. These ten questions show the differences that matter once the module is in your store.

Search PrestaShop Addons for lookbook or hotspots and you get a page of modules with similar screenshots: a photo, a few dots, a pop-up. The differences show up later, when prices change, the shop gets a second language, or someone opens the page on a phone.

These are the ten questions worth asking before you buy, whichever module you choose. We build one ourselves, so at the end you will see how Moonivo Image Map answers them.

1. Are prices and stock live?

Some modules copy the product name and price into the pop-up when you create it. Change the price, start a sale or run out of stock, and the image keeps showing the old information.

Ask: does the card read the price, discount and stock from the catalogue every time, in the visitor's currency and with tax?

2. Can people buy without leaving the image?

A pop-up that only links to the product page saves a search but still sends people away from the look they liked.

Ask: is there an add-to-cart button in the card? Does it handle products with combinations, so a visitor can choose size and colour? Does it use PrestaShop's own cart, so your theme's cart counter and confirmation work?

3. Can the whole look go to the cart at once?

The point of shop-the-look is buying the set. Adding five products one by one is where many baskets stop.

Ask: can one card hold several products, with an add all to cart button?

4. Is there a product list beside the photo?

On a busy photo, dots alone make visitors hunt. A list of the products next to the image, synced with it, is what turns a picture into a lookbook.

Ask: is there a synced product list, and what happens to it on a phone or in a narrow column?

5. More than one photo per page?

A lookbook has several rooms or outfits. Building a separate map for each and stacking them makes a long, slow page.

Ask: can one map hold several images that visitors switch between, each with its own hotspots?

6. Does it work in every language and shop?

If your store runs in two languages, every card needs two texts, and product names must follow your translations.

Ask: are the cards translatable, do product names come from the catalogue in the visitor's language, and is multistore supported?

7. How does it behave on phones?

A wide photo with twelve dots becomes a small photo with twelve tiny dots.

Ask: can you use a different image for tablets and phones, adjust or hide hotspots per device, and keep dots and badges readable when the image is small?

8. Will it slow the page or make it jump?

Images are heavy, and a module that adds its own scripts on every page, or lets the layout jump while the photo loads, costs you speed scores and sales.

Ask: does the map reserve its space before the image arrives, and does it load only where a map is shown?

9. Can you measure what it sells?

Without numbers, a shoppable image is a decoration you hope works.

Ask: does it record clicks and add-to-cart per product? Can it show where people clicked on the photo? Does it send events to GA4 or Meta Pixel? Does it store personal data, which you would then have to cover in your privacy policy?

10. Who maintains it, and for how long?

PrestaShop moves on: 1.7, 8, 9. A module that is not updated stops working at the next upgrade.

Ask: which versions does it support today, how often is it updated, is there a public changelog, and what does support cost after the first year?

How Moonivo Image Map answers them

We built Moonivo Image Map with these questions in mind. Here is how it answers each of them.

Question Moonivo Image Map
Live prices and stock Yes: price, sale badge and stock read from the catalogue, in the visitor's currency, with tax.
Buy from the image Add to cart in the card, with combinations as swatches and drop-downs, through PrestaShop's own cart.
The whole look at once Multi-product cards with Add all to cart.
Product list A synced list beside the photo, moving below it on phones and in narrow columns, with filter chips.
Several photos Scenes with their own hotspots, switched by tabs, buttons, arrows, dots or swipes.
Languages and shops Translatable cards, product names in the visitor's language, full multistore support.
Phones Separate tablet and phone images, per-device position and visibility; dots and badges keep a readable size.
Speed The map reserves its space while the image loads, so the page does not jump.
Measuring Clicks and add-to-cart per shape, a click heatmap, A/B tests, GA4 and Meta Pixel events. No personal data stored.
Maintenance PrestaShop 1.7 to 9.1, regular releases with a public changelog, 12 months of updates included, then optional renewal.

The easiest check is your own: click through the live demo on a phone, open the demo back office and build a map, and read the documentation before you decide.
